HORTON TAKES BIEVER’S MODIFIED TWICE TO VICTORY LANE AT BRIDGEPORT
SPEEDWAY

BRIDGEPORT, NJ (August 2, 2009) - On Bike Night at Bridgeport Speedway, Jimmy Horton took Dick Biever’s Alpha Mills Modified to victory lane twice as he captured both 25-Lap Big Block Modified features. Frank Dorry, Jr. was the victor in the 358 Sportsman contest. The GM Sportsman feature was won by Eric Kormann.

Stan Frankenfield, Jr. took the lead at the drop of the green in the regularly scheduled 25-Lap Big Block feature with Steve Durand, Ryan Watt and Jimmy Horton in pursuit. Horton began his drive to the front as he passed Watt for third on lap 5 and motored by Durand on lap 7 to move into the runner-up spot. Also on lap 7, Wade Hendrickson, who started the feature in the ninth position, swept by Durand to gain third place. Horton hounded Frankenfield, Jr. for a few laps before taking over the lead on lap 11. Once in front, Horton successfully negotiated the lap traffic in the caution free event to win his second feature of the year. Hendrickson worked his way up to second place on lap 16 and finished in the runner up spot. Third place went to Watt with Chad James finishing in the fourth position. Frankenfield, Jr. and Chic Cossaboone battled for fifth position in the final laps with Frankenfield, Jr. regaining the spot at the finish line. The Big Block Modified qualifying races were won by Horton, Frankenfield, Jr. and Cossaboone.

In the makeup Big Block Modified feature from Saturday, July 25th, Mike Franz took the lead at the start with Ryan Watt, Ron Roberts and Jimmy Horton in the chase. After multiple cautions and restarts following the completion of one lap of racing, Watt escalated to the front with Horton jumping into second place on lap 2. One circuit later, Horton was leading the pack. After Stan Frankenfield’s ride stopped in turn 2 on lap 4, Steve Durand, Steve Bottcher and Wade Hendrickson were all able to get by Franz on the resumption of action to take third, fourth and fifth respectively. Hendrickson charged past Bottcher and Durand to take third place on lap 8. One tour later, Bottcher got past Hendrickson following another caution and restart. At the halfway point, Horton had built a comfortable six second lead over the pack. On lap 15, Hendrickson’s machine billowed smoke causing the yellow lights to flicker again. When the green waved again, the second and third place cars of Watt and Bottcher tangled briefly and caused Watt to lose a few spots. Durand took advantage of the situation and became the new man in second place. Durand’s second place run came to an end on lap 18 as he slowed down in turn four to bring out the final caution of the event. On the last restart, Horton fought back a strong challenge from Bottcher to keep his lead and went on to claim his second checkered flag of the evening and third of the year. With the two victories on this night, Horton now has 117 career wins at Bridgeport Speedway. Bottcher finished in second place with Chad James coming home in third. Watt fought his way back to a fourth place finish and Scott Irwin wound up in fifth place.
