JIMMY PHELPS WINS ROLLING WHEELS RACEWAY ON FANFEST 125 NIGHT

ELBRIDGE, NY_ With Super DIRT Week 2010 lurking in the wings, Rolling Wheels Raceway ending it’s 2010 regular season in fine style. With a five division program awaiting a total of 119 stock cars, race fans knew that it was going to be a great night of racing. It was Fanfest 125 with a bounce house awaiting the kids while the popular Sarah Horner Band played great music for two hours as race fans made their way to the grandstands for racing action. Track officials put forth extra effort in preparing the Rolling Wheels Raceway track surface leading up to the FanFest 125. Drivers and fans witnessed the best racing surface at RWR in quite some time.

Jimmy Phelps continues to have a strong 2010 season as he won the 30 lap DIRTcar big block Modified feature. The Baldwinsville, NY racing star took the lead on lap six and never looked back. For Phelps, it was his 11th win of the season and first at Rolling Wheels Raceway. Rob Bellinger was second followed by Tom Sears Jr. in third. Billy Dunn took fourth followed by Justin Haers in fifth. Sixth place finisher Alan Johnson was the recipient of the Dig Safely NY Bonus Bucks Program. Johnson received a $500 gift certificate for Motorsports Safety Systems of Weedsport, NY on behalf of Dig Safely NY.

Tim Sears Jr continues to be on fire. The Central New York racing star is the hottest property on the Mr. DIRTcar Sportsman Championship Series tour, winning for the fourth time in the last five races Saturday night. Sears did the trick in late race fashion, passing then leader Mark Chiddy as the field came down to the white flag. Sears would have no problem after that as he went into his fifth DIRTcar Series victory of the 2010 season. Chiddy held on for second while Chris Raabe took home third. Fourth was Matt Hulsizer followed by early race leader Brandon Easey in fifth.

Four time Mr. DIRTcar Pro Stock Champion Pete Stefanski drove to his first win of the 2010 season, winning the 25 lap Mr. DIRTcar Pro Stock Series event. Stefanski was quick right from the start of the race and had better than a five second lead when the checkered flag flew. The best race of the night was for second place with Rocky Warner getting the runner up position. The final five laps saw the second thru fifth place runners battling for position and keeping the fans on their feet as the final laps were run off. Third was Joey Ladouceur. Fourth was Rob Yetman and fifth was PJ Peters.

In the 20 lap CRSA Sprint feature, Chuck Alessi took the victory. Finishing second was Joey Allen, who made things interesting on the final lap as he pulled up behind Alessi off turn four then tried an inside move down the front chute, only to fall short. Third was Billy Jaycox. Fourth was Chad King while Jeremy Quick was fifth. The CRSA Sprints drew 22 competitors in their only appearance of the 2010 season at Rolling Wheels Raceway.
Mike Welch claimed his first Rolling Wheels Raceway victory last night as the veteran driver won the 20 lap DIRTcar Parts Plus Tri-Track Stock Car Series Presented by Wix Filters. Welch took the lead on lap five and had Andy Fisk right on his bumper for the remainder of the race. Welch would win by six car lengths at the finish. Third place belonged to Frank Burnell, who had to pit on a lap five caution to remove some sheet metal from the left rear of the car. Fourth was Patrick Hobbs followed by Russ Marsdan.

The final race for the DIRTcar Parts Plus Tri Track Stock Car Series Presented by Wix Filters will be on Friday, October 8th at the Cayuga County Fair Speedway during Super DIRT Week 2010.

RWR NOTES: Jeff Brownell Jr. made a comeback of sorts, finishing seventh in the DIRTcar big block Modified main. Another comeback was the return of Stu Sheppard. The father of Modified racing star Matt Sheppard finished 17th in the backup car of Dave Rauscher. It had been at least 20 years since Stu had been in any type of race car…The Stock Car division continues to have momentum with 16 cars in the pit area for the DIRTcar Parts Plus Tri-Track Stock Car Series Presented by Wix Filters. The Mr. DIRTcar Pro Stock Series also had respectable numbers with 18 cars on hand.

The next event for the Rolling Wheels Raceway will be Friday, October 8th with the Mr. DIRTcar 358 Modified Championship Series and the Mr. DIRTcar Sportsman Championship Series. Then on Saturday, October 9th, the World of Outlaws Sprints and the “Win And Your In” DIRTcar big block Modified hits the five eights mile for non-stop racing action. Both events will start at 7:30pm.

“The Doctor” Surgically Removes All Doubt to Dominate Accord Speedway’s King of the Catskills for Seven Grand Payday

By: Steve Pados, Accord Speedway Media
Fabulous warm weather, a pit area filled with the top driving stars on the East Coast, a standing room only crowd with the best racing fans in America and a speedway groomed to absolute perfection laid the groundwork for the completion of the greatest season in the history of the Accord Speedway over the weekend as the Palmer Family presented the King of the Catskills weekend spectacular to the racing community. With temperatures hovering in the low 80’s, the gentle breezes sweeping through the Ulster County peaks and valleys gave way to the crack of hot rod racing cars cranking up in the early afternoon as the race teams made their final preparations for the weekend of racing ahead of them. When the final curtain fell on Friday evening, the Rochester, New York doctor of speed and excitement Danny Johnson drove his Mike Payne owned Waste Management sponsored chariot into the Lucas Oil Products Victory Lane amidst his many fans awaiting him after his dominating triumph at the speedway, his third of the 2010 racing season at Accord and his biggest win to date at the Ulster County facility. Johnson claimed a $7,000.00 prize in the WLR Construction sponsored event, and the win carried some valuable points as “The Doctor” remains in the hunt for the ROC Dirt title with one race remaining on the schedule.
After a series of rollicking heats and consolation events, Pat Ward and Dom Roselli brought the 29-car starting field down for the start of the 100-lap grind. “The Iceman” Roselli left Ward frozen in his tracks as he quickly found residence at the top side of the raceway to move out to a small advantage in the early stages of the event.  Jeff Heotzler broke on lap four and as the race restarted, a mad scramble found invader Frank Cozze, track champion Jerry Higbie and 2009 rookie of the year Greg Hastie all needing assistance back to the pit area and out of the running for the evening. Rick Mill brought the race to a halt on lap-14 and when the racing resumed Johnson dove to the bottom of the speedway to begin to challenge the leader Roselli.  The pair raced side by side for two laps until Johnson was able to pull off the perfect slide job and take over the point. Neil “The Wheel” Harris broke on lap-18 ending his triumphant return back to the speedway battles and once again when the racing went back to green Johnson wasted no time to move out front to control the tempo of the event. Racing action behind the leaders was thick and tight and the real estate was extremely pricey as the top notch field of driving talent tested the many channels of the high banked quarter miler to work their way forward. Jamie Yannone, Craig Mitchell, Stewart Friesen and Bobby Varin were all making a statement as they sliced and diced behind the leaders. As the event reached the halfway fuel stop, Roselli saw his brilliant drive halted with a right rear flat as the race went to caution.
As the second half of the race began, once more Johnson showed the pomp and circumstance to lead the way and “The Wild Child” Andy Bachetti was chasing him. Bachetti, the 2008 track champion at Accord, was able to get close by testing all of the real estate between the four cornered walls of the Accord layout. New players began to emerge as the laps clicked off and Bachetti was able to close in quickly on Johnson in lapped traffic but “The Doctor” remained glued to the bottom of the raceway and was able to fend off the advances by Bachetti and after the clearing the traffic was able to break away to a safe margin to remain in control of the race. Matt Sheppard became a player as he slipped by Friesen for third and Mike Ricci showed his expertise at Accord by racing his way back through the field after a spin early in the event. Brett Hearn was steady as he silently remained in the top ten during the running of the race and Pat Ward was another of the top guns who was forced to work his way back through the field after some early problems slowed his pace. Varin, after running in the top six for most of the event began to have an issue with his race car and lost a few spots after a brilliant run in the Pedrick/Romano machine. Meme Desantis began the race from 20th starting place and became quicker as the laps ran off in the No Steroids.com/Team Fast hot rod.
Danny Johnson drove a masterful race to capture the win and the $7,000.00 pay day that went along with it. Bachetti was second in a brilliant drive from 14th and Sheppard, who decided at the last moment to compete in the event, was third after a methodical drive from 24th starting place. Mike Ricci was fifth with Brett Hearn snaring sixth, Pat Ward in seventh, Meme Desantis in eighth, Bobby Varin ninth and Duane Howard completing the top ten.
Anthony Perrego utilized a pole start to lead every lap on his way to victory in the 50-lap main event for the Sportsman division racers. With Perrego controlling the point, the attention focused to the tight racing action behind him as the outstanding mix of outside invaders and talented Accord regulars provided the fireworks for a very entertaining show. Greg McCloskey continues to raise his star as he chased Perrego for the last half of the event to finish in the runner-up slot behind Perrego. Three time defending track champion Brian Krummel was third with Darrell Ford in fourth and David Coene completing the top five. The second five consisted of Jesse Marks, the returning Steve Meilleur, Mike Ruggiero, the invading Kyle Weiss and Kevin Ward.
The “Rockaway Rocket” Danny Buccafusca was a late added addition to the Junior Slingshot roster for the King of the Catskills event but the Garden State speedster took the lead early and then held off the advances of rookie speedster Eddie Strada to capture the main event for the Juniors in his first ever appearance at the speedway. The win for Buccafusca marked his 15th win of the season for him and the win coming after sharing the spotlight on Monday evening on the popular CARQUEST Gasoline Alley TV/Internet Show with superstar talents Jason Meyers, Shane Stewart, Bobby Butler and Accord Speedway Promoter Gary Palmer. Strada was the runner-up with Chris Kurtz racing to third place, Tyler Dippel in fourth and Tommy Zwart rounding out the top five.
The Gunslinger” Jesse Leiby, in his first start as a Regular Slingshot competitor, jumped into the lead at the start of the main event and led the first two laps. Aaron Henneforth, who purchased his car for the event in the middle of the week from his brother Mark, found a bottom seam to his liking and led the next lap before Leiby came roaring back to take over the lead on the next circuit. Leiby led the next lap before Henneforth again found a fast line and gained control of the event for the final time and go on to record his first ever victory at the Accord facility. Charlie Lawrence drove a brilliant race to finish in the runner-up slot with Caroga Creek regulars Justin Haas and Tom Rotondaro finishing third and fourth and Jesse Leiby hanging tough for a top five finish.
MUDPLUGS:
The showcased event of the season at Accord for the Palmer Family was the icing on the cake for the successful promotional team in their tenth season at operating the Ulster County property. The hard working duo and their staff put long tedious hours into the past couple of weeks to welcome in racing fans from far and wide with as many as twelve states representing the statewide support of the tremendous weekend of racing. The pristine racing facility has to rank as one of the most fan friendly facilities in the country as many of the drivers come into the grandstand areas to mingle with the racing fans and the many racing legends of the sport who find their into the seats at the speedway. Parking was at a premium and the grounds were abuzz with excitement for the long awaited weekend of racing at the “Gem in the Catskills”. The turnstiles of fans filled the concession areas all night long as the great cuisine at the speedway is gaining much the same reputation as the great racing at the speedway.
53 Modifieds made their way to the pit area. With the ROC title chase still waiting to play out, the racing was hard and fast and the quality field of racers put on a whale of a show throughout the evening. The heat action alone was well worth the price of an admission ticket and the consolation events were much the same. Three cars transferred out of each Modified heat and Jamie Yannone, Brett Hearn, Frank Cozze, Pat Ward, Bobby Varin and Jerry Higbie captured the exciting heat action wins. The three twelve lap consolation events were won by Rick Mill, Meme DeSantis and Duane Howard. Sportsman heats went to Anthony Perrego, Jesse Marks and Kevin Ward with the consi being claimed by Brad Szulewski. Jesse Leiby captured the Regular Slingshot heat. Danny Buccafusca and Eddie Strada captured the Junior Slingshot heats.
Former Modified star JR Crouse’s son Bradley had the opportunity to see the Accord track for the first time and recorded a sixth place finish in his first appearance. Jack Bublak made the trek down from the North country in New York and was eighth in his first time at Accord. Great young talent abounds in the Junior Slingshot ranks as Bobby Flood, Michelle Campbell, Jimmy Leiby, Matt Shultz, Matthew Gaughan, Cole Hnetschel and Leo Fotopolous added the lustre to what will be a great future in years to come for the race car drivers.
The Garden State contingent was strong David Hunt, Mark Herman, Clay Butler, Frank Venezia and Warren Floyd all showed their support to the Accord event. Kyle Weiss was in action and scored a ninth place finish in the first Accord appearance of the season for the Keystone State hot-shoe. Kyle Armstrong, Steve Meilleur, Erik Holmgren and John Lodini were outside invaders and Lenny Helmich took his first ride aboard a sportsman car and scored an 18th place finish in his first outing. Ronnie Johnson qualified for the Modified main but didn’t start the main with rear end problems aboard the Grasso mount.
John Willman, Meme DeSantis, Duane Howard, and Doug Manmiller all made the show and all looked to be like Accord regulars as they found their way quickly around the silky smooth Accord racing surface. Shaun Walker, Bobby Trapper, Ric Hill, Frank Cozze, Chris Shultz, John Lutes, Ricky Yetter and Brian Weaver all made their first appearances at Accord in 2010 and couple of time in 2010 performers Sammy Piazza and Kirk Horton were also in competition. Rick Laubach was a guaranteed starter but didn’t need it as he claimed a runner-up in the fourth heat in the Dieter Schmidt Lincoln Auto Body hot rod.
The keepsake edition of the speedway journal “The Accordian” was a brilliant production from Sara Fredericks and the writing of Steve Pados as the top five from the ROC were pitted against the to five from the Accord Speedway. Pados went one step further to salute one of the pioneeers of racing Russ Meyer who continues to work at the speedway in a Security capacity.
A Legends Racer remained on the grounds all weekend as select shows will be in place next season at Accord and the Palmer Family has taken on a dealership to sell the neat looking 1200cc little creations. More information will follow shortly regarding the purchase of the popular race cars.
Kim Rutledge from Branchville, New Jersey was on hand to sing the National Anthem and did a spectacular job in honoring our flag and country. Gus Zygmunt from the Chrystal Restaurant in Pine Island, New York was on hand with his lovely wife and enjoyed the racing action of the King of the Catskills event.

Bloomquist Takes 500th Career Victory at Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series Jackson 100

Bloomquist Takes 500th Career Victory at Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series Jackson 100

BROWNSTOWN, IN (September 25, 2010) - Hall-of-Fame driver, Scott Bloomquist of Mooresburg, TN won the 500th feature event of his illustrious career on Saturday Night in capturing the 31st Annual Jackson 100 at Brownstown (IN) Speedway. Bloomquist earned $20,000 for his third win in the annual event, which was sanctioned by the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series. Bloomquist took the lead on lap four after starting third. Seeking to become the first four-time winner of the race, Don O’Neal of Martinsville, IN finished second just ahead of Jimmy Owens of Newport, TN. Completing the top five were Matt Miller of Waterville, OH and Chris Wall of Springfield, LA.

“I have to thank so many people for getting to 500 wins, I wish Bob and Barb Miller were here to see this, they have been such an important part of my career. My wife, daughter, and my mom are here so I am glad they got to see this,” said the 46-year-old driver. “To win number 500 here at Brownstown is special, it has been one of my favorite tracks to run on in my career, somebody said we got our 200th win here in 1991. The first time I came here I don’t think I even made the race, the locals were so tough here to beat and with all the traveling guys racing it was quite a chore just to get into the field.”

Bloomquist, who started in third in the 100-lap affair, took the lead on lap four from O’Neal. Owens took over the second spot on lap six and challenged Bloomquist for the lead up until lap eleven when O’Neal passed him. O’Neal then picked the pace as the top three put on quite a show for the race lead.

Bloomquist entered heavy traffic by lap 26 until a caution on lap 40 left Bloomquist with a clear track in front of him. On the restart Bloomquist pulled away from O’Neal and Owens as he set sail. Bloomquist saw a 12-car length lead shrink down to one length with 25 laps to go as he was having trouble negotiating lapped traffic.

Bloomquist worked his way through more lapped cars, and put plenty of distance between himself and O’Neal when the checkers flew. With the win, Bloomquist stretched his lead in Lucas Oil Championship Points Standings to 260 points over Owens. Bloomquist was in his own self-designed chassis and is sponsored by Miller Brothers Construction, Hawkeye Trucking, and Sweet Mfg. A Roush-Yates Racing Engine powers his car.

O’Neal was 2nd in the Independence Lumber, Roush-Yates, MasterSbilt Chevrolet; followed closely at the stripe by Owens in the Reece Monument Company, Gantte Appraisals, Bloomquist Race Cars Ford.

Miller, the 2007 winner of the Jackson 100 came home fourth just in front of Wall, who maintains his Quarter Master “Rookie of the Year” points lead with an impressive fifth place run.

Completing the top ten were; Bart Hartman of Zanesville, OH; Jeep VanWormer of Pinconning, MI; Earl Pearson Jr. of Jacksonville, FL; Dan Schlieper of Sullivan, WI; and 14-year-old Tyler Reddick of Corning, CA.

In preliminary action on Saturday Night, Heat Race winners were Don O’Neal, Scott Bloomquist, Chris Wall, and Jimmy Owens. Zack Dohm and Donnie Moran took the B-Mains.

Series Announcer, James Essex, of Hope, IN was inducted into the Brownstown Speedway Hall of Fame during the intermission prior to the 100-lap main event. Essex began announcing for the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series in its first year, and has become the famous “Voice of the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series”. He began his career when he was 14 years old at Brownstown Speedway, and announced there for the next 21 years before taking to the highways and announcing on the national dirt late model touring circuits.

The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series will conclude it’s 2010 racing season with two events in the State of Georgia. On Saturday Night, October 9th the Lucas Oil “Dixie Shootout” at Dixie Speedway in Woodstock, GA awaits the stars of the LOLMDS. The Lucas Oil Shootout will be shot in front of the cameras of SPEED for broadcast at a later date. It all comes down to the Lucas Oil “Rome Showdown on Sunday Night, October 10th, to decide who will win the 2010 Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series National Title. Both events will pay $10,000 to win.

STEWART FRIESEN TAKES HOME BIG PAYDAY AT FONDA ON VALKEN WHEELS

FONDA , NY – With a lot of big money on the line the 2010 racing season came to a close on Sunday evening at the Track of Champions Fonda Speedway on the final day of the annual McDonald’s weekend festivities. A great field of invaders were on hand for the race and in the end one of them ended up winning the big money.
Earlier this season Stewart Friesen took home a big win at Fonda when he won the first feature of his career at the speedway. As big as that win was it didn’t match up to the one that he took on Sunday evening when he won the McDonald’s 100, taking home $9,500 for the victory. On top of that he also won the Thunder on the Thruway Modified Series point championship which paid him another $8,000 for a $17,500 pay day.
“I don’t really know what to say,” Friesen said after the win. “The crew worked their butts off the last two nights after blowing our motor in the race here at Fonda Saturday night. The guys never got the chance to drink any of the beer that they bought but tonight will be a different story.”
Other winners on the big day of racing sponsored by McDonald’s were Luke Munroe (sportsman) and Rocky Warner (pro stock). The Best of Four Sportsman and Pro Stock Champions were also decided on Sunday with Bill Trexler and Warner crowned the champions along with Friesen.
During pre-race ceremonies the Fonda Fair Princesses and Queen’s were on hand on victory lane to greet the drivers as they were introduced to the crowd along with officials from McDonald’s.
The princesses and queen’s on hand for the day were Jessica Lape (Miss Fonda Fair), Ashley McDuffee (Junior Miss Fonda Fair), Alexys Centi (Fonda Fair Princess), and Tiffany Sargalis (Fonda Fair Junior Princess). Mimi Lazzaro sang the Canadian Anthem while Centi (the Fonda Fair Princess) sang the National Anthem before McDonald’s officials gave drivers the command to start your engines.
Elmo Reckner and Larry Wight started on the front row with Reckner leading early on but by the time lap one was completed third place starter and 2010 track champion Bobby Varin was the race leader. By lap four Varin held a straightaway lead with the first of only two caution flags in the event coming out on lap eight when Dave Constantino did a 360 degree spin on the front stretch and continued on.
On the restart Matt Sheppard was the new third place car behind Reckner with Brett Hearn fourth after starting seventh. Hearn worked his way past Reckner for the second position on lap 13 with Varin now out to a full straightaway advantage. Stewart Friesen started the event in the ninth position and on lap 16 got by Reckner for the third spot with Varin now in lap traffic.
After starting 13th and eighth respectively, Matt DeLorenzo and Pat Ward worked their way into the top five on lap 24 with Reckner falling out of the event on lap 31 while running inside the top 10. Tim McCreadie started the event in the 17th position and by lap 39 was in the fourth position after getting by both Ward and DeLorenzo at the same time.
The yellow flag was out again on lap 42 for Tony Pepicelli who spun on the front straightaway taking away the half track lead that Varin had built up and on the restart Willy Decker spun in turn four while running in the top 10 bringing out the final caution of the event.
On this restart McCreadie stepped out of line in turn three and got around the outside of both Friesen and Hearn along with a few lap cars to take over the second position. By the lap 52 point in the event Varin and McCreadie made it a two car race as they were a straightaway ahead of third place running Hearn.
McCreadie caught the leader on lap 64 in lap traffic with Varin able to get by the lap car of Darwin Greene easily while McCreadie wasn’t as lucky and got held up behind Greene while Varin pulled away. When Varin was slowed on the backstretch on lap 69 after he and the lap car of Floyd Billington made contact, McCreadie closed in and got around Varin for the lead on the inside of turn four.
Friesen stayed in touch with the leaders in the top five for the first three quarters of the event when he started making his move to the front. On lap 71 Friesen snuck by Hearn for the third position and one lap later he was the new second place car after getting by Varin.
On lap 74 it was Friesen’s turn to step out of line as all of the cars were hugging the inside of the speedway so he made a move around the outside of both the lap car of Billington and McCreadie to take the race lead. Hearn fell out of the event on lap 82 after he drove into the infield while running third but it was Friesen’s day as he led the remaining laps to take the win in the Chad Parks owned Teo car to take the win over McCreadie, Varin, Pat Ward, and Matt Sheppard.
“On the last restart I was trying to figure out what everyone else was going to do,” Friesen said. “Once the track rubbers up it is tough to pass on and everybody was hugging the inside of the track but Ric has a huge race track here and there was plenty of track out there to use. It was huge for us to get to victory lane today and it was a big team effort.”
“This is a good finish for Vinny (car owner Vinny Salerno) and the crew but I don’t run these race cars enough to know too much about these American Racer tires and that hurt us,” McCreadie said. “I think that Friesen had a harder right rear tire on than we did so it is going to be a long ride home for me.”
“I don’t think the tires hurt us as much as the track taking rubber did,” Varin said. “We set the car up for a dry, slick track and once it started taking rubber I started shoving the nose in the turns and after that I didn’t get a chance to breathe as the car was a handful after that.”
Modified heat race wins went to Greene, Tim Fuller, Ronnie Johnson, and Friesen while the two consolation events were won by Jimmy Davis and Jeff Trombley. All total there were 40 modifieds on hand for the event.
The 30-lap sportsman feature began with Brian Gleason the early race leader while back in the field Mark Mortensen and Luke Munroe were making their way to the front after starting eighth and tenth respectively. By lap three Mortensen was already up to the fifth position while Munroe was close behind. Munroe got by both Bill Trexler and Mortensen for the fourth position on lap six with Mortensen also getting by Trexler for the fifth spot one lap later.
Munroe got by Adam McAuliffe for the second position on lap 10 with Mortensen also getting by for the third spot. Mortensen and McAuliffe swapped the third position twice before Mortensen was able to secure the third spot at the same time that Munroe was taking the lead from Gleason. While Munroe pulled away to a straightaway lead with 10 laps to go Mortensen got around both Gleason and Jeremiah Munson for the second spot.
On the final lap going down the backstretch Mortensen suffered a flat right rear tire while running in the second position and he was forced to drive into the pit area at that point as Munroe went on to his fifth win of the season and the 12th of his career over Munson, Ricky Quick, McAuliffe, and Chuck Allen.
“There was a little bit of track left on the outside early on but my car was good enough that I could run it anywhere from top to bottom,” Munroe said after the win. “After a bad wreck a few weeks ago this frame is still twisted and we have a body from 2008 on it but this was one of the most exciting wins that I have ever had.”
Sportsman heat races for the 25 cars that were on hand were won by Munson, Mortensen, and John Scarborough .
The pro stock feature began with Kenny Gates the early leader with 2010 track champion Roy Fifield second. By lap six Fifield was playing bumper tag with Gates and one lap later got around Gates on the outside of the backstretch for the lead. Tom Denton and Rocky Warner were the new third and fourth place cars on lap 10 when the first of five caution flags in the event was thrown.
On the restart, Warner went three wide to get by both Denton and Gates for the second position and on lap 11 Warner was the new race leader after getting by Fifield on the outside on the backstretch. Fifield wasn’t about to surrender the lead that easily however as he took it back for one lap before transmission problems forced him to the sidelines.
Warner led the remaining laps to take his fourth win of the season and the fifth of his career at Fonda over Pete Broderson, Jim Normoyle, Nick Stone, and Jeremy Pitts.
“I really wasn’t too happy with the track today but I got forced to the outside and it all worked out anyway,” Warner said. “I was running the bottom early but there was nothing there so I had to go to the top.”
Pro Stock heat races were won by Warner, Denton , and Pitts with a total of 24 cars on hand.

HENDRICKSON TALLIES TENTH WIN OF THE YEAR AT BRIDGEPORT SPEEDWAY ON VALKEN WHEELS

BRIDGEPORT, NJ (September 26, 2010) - On a night when JJ Yeley and
Speed Channels Bob Dillner made special appearances at Bridgeport
Speedway, Wade Hendrickson tallied his tenth Big Block Modified
feature win of the year. In the Crate Modified division, Larry
Lippincott scored his fourth feature win of the season with Neal
Williams taking home the 2010 championship. Pat Conaway capped off his
championship year in the Proformance Cuts Outlaw Stock class with his
seventh checkered flag.

After the original start of the 25-lap Big Block Modified event was
marred by Jack Hartnetts spin, Mike Iles grabbed the lead with Wade
Hendrickson, Jimmy Wyers, Brett Ballard and Ron Roberts in the early
chase. Just as Iles was increasing his lead, the action was slowed
down on lap 3 when Mike Franzs ride came to stop on the backstretch.
Once racing resumed, the top two remained the same with Jimmy Chester
motoring into third on lap 5 and Chad James driving up to fourth on
lap 7. Iles and Hendrickson were separating themselves from the pack
as they hit lap traffic on the tenth circuit. On lap 14 with
Hendrickson closing in on Iles, the yellow lights illuminated as Chic
Cossaboone slowed down in front of the grandstands. When the green
flag waved again, Hendrickson powered by Iles to take the lead with
James taking over third from Chester. Also, JJ Yeley, a current driver
in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, continued his way to the front by
advancing into the top five after starting in fourteenth. Once in
front, Hendrickson began to dominate the race. With five laps to go,
Hendrickson extended his lead over Iles by a full straightway. As the
checkered flag waved, Hendrickson was a full five seconds ahead of
Iles to achieve his tenth win of the year. With Iles in second, James
finished in third and Chester took home a fourth place run. Yeley held
on to finish in fifth. The winners of the Big Block Modified heat
races were Hendrickson and Ron Roberts.

In the double point 20-lap race for the Crate Modifieds, Larry
Lippincott was victorious for the fourth time this season. Lippincott
started in ninth place and passed Dan Cogdill for the lead on lap 4.
Neal Williams, who began the event in eleventh, used his hard fought
second place finish to narrowly capture the 2010 Crate Modified
Championship over Lippincott. Brett Kressley wound up in third. The
top five was completed by Tom Miller and Mike Cogdill. Dan Cogdill and
Lippincott each won a Crate Modified qualifying race.

Pat Conway clinched his third consecutive Proformance Cuts Outlaw
Stock Championship by winning his seventh feature of the year. Conaway
led every lap of the race after he started in fourth place. Rick
Broschard finished in second while Ken Watson, Jr. grabbed third. Nick
Gargiulo and Herman Solderich rounded out the top five. Conaway and
Jeremy Doerr were the heat race winners.

HENDRICKSON SECURES ANOTHER BIG BLOCK MODIFIED TITLE AT BRIDGEPORT SPEEDWAY

September 20, 2010

wadeIn the 30-lap double point Big Block Modified feature, Chad James rocketed to the front with Butch Tittle and Ryan Watt in the chase. After a couple of early caution periods in the opening laps, James remained on top with Watt gaining second and Richie Pratt, Jr. taking up third place. James was opening some daylight from the pack when the yellow lights clicked on for Bobby Firth on lap 7. On the ensuing resumption of racing, James held on to the lead as Pratt, Jr. worked his way around Watt to gain second. The top three remained that way until Wade Hendrickson passed Watt on lap 10 following a restart. With James still the best, Butch Tittle’s flat on lap 12 brought the final caution flag of the event. When the green flag waved, James held off Pratt, Jr. with Watt returning to third place. With James running the middle to high groove, Pratt, Jr. was using the low side to track down the leader. By lap 16, the top two began a duel for the top spot. On lap 19 in lap traffic, Pratt, Jr. emerged with the lead and began to pull away from James. Watt overtook James for second on lap 22 as the top three were about to hit heavier traffic on the track. In the midst of slower cars, James was able to reclaim the runner-up spot from Watt on lap 25. Two circuits later, James was quickly closing on Pratt, Jr. when his momentum was curtailed after scrapping against the backstretch retaining wall. When the checkered flag waved, Pratt, Jr. crossed the finish line three cars lengths ahead of James for his third win of the year. Watt wound up in third place with Hendrickson finishing fourth and Jimmy Chester completing the race in fifth. For the second year in a row and the third time in his career, Hendrickson was crowned the Big Block Modified champion for the season at Bridgeport Speedway. Hendrickson, Watt and James each won a Big Block Modified heat race. The consolation race was won by Bob Sarkisian.

I-76 Speedway’s New Late Model Class/ Lewis Picks up 5th win of 2010 Season

September 15, 2010

A few months ago a late model driver from Northglenn, CO, Jeff Meeker, was able to talk Butch Spieker, owner of I-76 Speedway, in Ft. Morgan, CO into starting up a by-weekly late model class for the remainder of the 2010 season. With Colorado Motorsports Park, in Byers, CO,  shutting its doors in the middle of the year there were several late model drivers that had no home track to race at so this new series was a perfect fit.

This new series has used pretty much the same rules as the Colorado Late Model Association DIRTcar Series with two new twists. The first new rule is that all cars must run a 6200 RPM MSD rev limiter chip. This has allowed drivers with a crate motor to be on the same level as a driver with an open motor. It has turned out to be pretty successful at equaling the playing field. The second new rule is that the top two cars from the previous race must start at the rear of the field at the current race. This puts on a great show for the fans.

So far there have been five races. Three races have been won with open motors, one race has been won with an all steel motor, and one race has been won with a 604 crate motor. The series has grown a little each time there has been a race. The first race had six cars and the previous race had 11. The track owner even decided to add one more race before the end of the year. The late models will race on Saturday, October 2nd with the Demolition Derby and a couple other classes to be announced. There is a pretty good possibility that there will be over 15 cars at the last race of the season. There has also been several drivers interested in building a new car for the 2011 season and there could be close to 20 cars on a regular basis.

At the race that was held on September 11th, Scott Lewis of Henderson, CO was able to pick up his 1st win with this new series and fifth win overall in 2010. Scott took advantage of a slow start by pole sitter Larry Jackson that bottled up the field. He was able to move from his sixth place starting spot to 2nd before he reached the back stretch. Scott passed Jackson going into corner 3 and had the lead at the end of the 1st lap and sailed to the win from there. Larry Jackson stayed in 2nd for 8 laps and then lost that spot to Gary Dechant after battling with him for a few laps. Jeff Meeker was able to take over third with 5 laps to go. Jackson and Bill Smith rounded out the top five.

HENDRICKSON SECURES HIS NINTH WIN OF THE YEAR AT BRIDGEPORT SPEEDWAY

September 13, 2010

BRIDGEPORT, NJ (September 12, 2010) - On Law Enforcement Night at Bridgeport Speedway, Wade Hendrickson secured his ninth victory of the year in the Big Block Modified class. Ryan Smith scored the win in the ARDC Midget feature while Neal Williams snared the checkered flag in the Crate Modified division.

In the 25-lap Big Block Modified feature, polesitter Bob Sarkisian led the opening circuit with Ron Roberts, Brian Kressley, Wade Hendrickson and Ryan Watt in pursuit. Quickly, Roberts began to apply heavy pressure on Sarkisian and grabbed the lead on lap 2 with Hendrickson following him to gain second.  Watt took over third place on lap 3 when Sarkisian retired from the race.  Hendrickson began to hunt down Roberts and pulled up to the bumper of Roberts on lap 5. After stalking Roberts for two laps, Hendrickson captured the top spot on lap 7 when Roberts slid up the track in turn four and created an opening for Hendrickson. With the lead, Hendrickson began to pull away from his rivals and he began to encounter lap traffic as the race hit the ten lap mark. On lap 11, the only caution of the event occurred when Brett Ballard slowed in turn one. Under the yellow flag condition, Ryan Watt was called back to the pits by his crew as smoke was spewing from his exhaust. On the restart, Hendrickson maintained his edge and Kressley drove past Roberts for second place. Chad James was on the charge and he motored by Roberts on lap 13 to gain third place. With ten laps to go, Hendrickson had a huge lead as Kressley was fending off James. By lap 20, Hendrickson’s lead was more than a full straightaway. In the final two laps, Hendrickson dodged through heavy lap traffic to score his ninth win of the season. Kressley finished in second with James taking third place. Roberts wound up in fourth and Jimmy Chester completed the event in fifth. Hendrickson, Roberts and Sarkisian were the Big Block Modified heat race victors.
